VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Williamsburg Contemporary Art Center is looking for members who will share their time and talent to enhance and improve the Gallery and Art Education Center and our commitment to the community. Our volunteers are the backbone of our organization! All volunteer assignments are important to us. We will contact you after receiving your volunteer form.

   ANNUAL MEMBERS SHOW:  Assist in organizing and hanging the Members Show in June.
   ART ED CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS:  Help with periodic events such as Kid’s Art Day and Artist Workshops.
   BUDDY ART:  Help set up and supervise art activities in art classes for special needs kids. Spring and Fall sessions – 6 classes per session
   BUILDING and GROUNDS:  Help with small maintenance tasks both indoors and out, as needed at the Art Ed Center and the Gallery.
   CRAFT EXHIBITS:  Assist with the installation of the craft exhibits.
   DESK RECEPTION:  Front desk coverage of one 3-hour shift per month on a day that fits in your schedule. Also, help out during your shift with occasional office duties such as folding newsletters or stuffing envelopes. Hours are 10:30-1:30 or 1:30-4:30, Tuesday thru Saturday at the main Gallery on Boundary Street.
   DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE:  Working with the President and appropriate staff, the Development Committee is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing the organization's overall fundraising activities.
   GRANT WRITING:  Assist in researching and writing grants.
   HIGH SCHOOL JURIED SHOW:  Assist in organizing and implementing this January event.
   HOSPITALITY:  Enhance our programs by assisting with refreshments at the member’s preview receptions, lectures and Weekend Gallery receptions.
   JAIL ART:  Teach art to inmates at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail. 1.5-2 hours weekly.
   MAJOR FUNDRAISERS:  Assist on a committee to plan and implement events such as "ArtSpeaks: Small & Great" and "An Artful Soire, Mardi Gras with the Gallery".
   MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE:  Become an ambassador of the Gallery by recruiting and welcoming new members, involve current members and get in touch with former members.
   OFFICE ASSISTANT:  General clerical duties to assist the office manager. These may include recording information, writing receipts, filing and sorting, basic data entry and answering the phone.
   OPEN STUDIO FACILITATOR:  Willing volunteer to head up the Open Studio class every Friday morning from 9:30-12:30, (except major holidays). This includes scheduling the model, contacting attendees, unlocking the AEC, setting up/ breaking down the room, posing the model several times during the morning session, managing the Open Studio money, purchasing props/ equipment and coffee and tea supplies.    PUBLICITY:  Computer savvy, enthusiastic people are needed in the following areas:
  FACEBOOK: Help keep the Gallery page updated.

  NEWSLETTER: Collate articles and photos and layout newsletter for publication twice a year.

  GRAPHIC DESIGN: Create posters and invitations for special events.

  MEDIA: Coordinate and submit periodic press releases to the newspapers, radio and magazines.
   SPECIAL EVENTS / FUNDRAISERS:  Volunteer at the special event or fundraiser
   SUNDAY DESK VOLUNTEER:  Volunteer Sundays 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the Main Gallery.
Shift 1: 1:00-3:00 and/or Shift 2: 3:00-5:00
Artists who exhibit in the Upstairs Gallery are asked to volunteer 4 hours per year if they are not already volunteering at the gallery.
   TEACHER ASSISTANT:  Assist the Art Instructor with the Youth Program Art Classes and Summer Art Camps; help with set-up, replenish supplies during class, assist individual students as needed, re-direct students' attention back to the Art Instructor as needed, help with clean-up. (1.5 - 3 hours per class/camp) Volunteers do not have to attend each class/camp in the series if they are not available each day/week.
