The glass spot is a family owned and operated public access hot glass facility opened in 2007 by Michael and Christopher Skibbe due to the need for a comprehensive hot glass studio in the Richmond/central Virginia area. From classes for the beginning glass artist to studio rental for advanced glass workers, we are dedicated to the teaching, creating and promoting of the art glass world in Richmond and beyond.

Our main goal is to provide all levels of instruction and comprehensive facilities to heighten the skill and knowledge level of glass artists, while bolstering the glass community and glass enthusiasm in general for the Richmond area.

Chris Skibbe began working with glass in 1997 and received his BFA from VCU in 2005. He has attended classes at Penland School of Crafts and the Pittsburgh Glass Center, where he has taken classes from such masters as Anthony Schafermeyer and Claire Kelley, Davide Salvidore, Boyd Sugiki, and Kait Rhodes. He currently manages the studio and teaches at the Glass Spot.
