Faye F. Vander Veer
Oils

August 27 – September 27, 2013

Award winning artist, Faye Vander Veer’s captivating paintings reflect her intense interest in the human spirit.   Inspired by the works of John Singer Sargent and Edouard Manet. her sensitivity to the effects of light, shadow, color and form evokes an emotional reaction that has drawn collectors to her work and keeps them coming back.

Born in Hampton, Virginia, she has been a lifelong painter.  Her parents encouraged her early interest in art and on her tenth birthday her father gave her an easel he had made and presented her with her first set of oil paints.  She has been an oil painter ever since.

“For me, each painting is a journey into the soul,” Faye says, “ an opportunity for me to explore my own reactions to the color and light I observe in everyday life.  I see the most ordinary occurrence and think how wonderful that would look as a painting, from the simplest gesture of a young girl putting on her shoe in Paris, to a group of seniors standing on a street corner in Italy, the world is a living canvas.”

Faye’s paintings have been featured in American Art Collector, Art of the West, Western Art Collector Magazines, newspaper articles and in some of the top juried fine art shows in the United States.  She was selected to be the Featured Artist for the 2008 Nansemond Suffolk Art Show.  Awards include Best in Show for painting at An Occasion for the Arts in 2009 and Best in Show at the Norfolk Academy Art Show that same year.   She was recently commissioned to do a large piece for the main lobby of the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Northern Virginia.  Her paintings are held in private and corporate collections throughout the U.S. and abroad.
