Billy K. Dodson
Wildlife Photographer

July 24 – August 24, 2012

Billy Dodson first became interested in the African people, landscapes and wildlife after a mountain climbing trip to Tanzania in 2001. Anxious to return to Africa, he decided to become a professional wildlife photographer to provide him both the means and excuse to return frequently to that part of the world. His first visit to Kenya and Tanzania as a professional was in 2005, and he has since made nine return visits as a wildlife and landscape photographer. His work has been published in Outdoor Photographer, Nature's Best Photography, Asian Photography and Africa Geographic magazines and in calendars, newspapers and posters in many places around the world. One of his elephant photos was displayed in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History for several months in 2010. He currently lives in Williamsburg, VA, with his wife Cynthia.

About the work
Billy does not have a specific photographic technique. He believes that the beauty of Africa's wildlife and landscapes stands on its own merit. His very simple goal is to attempt to do it a semblance of justice photographically. He captures animal portraits, family interaction and pure action shots. He enjoys shooting both color and black and white images. Most of the images at this exhibit have never before been displayed of offered for sale. All images are professionally printed on canvas and expertly framed by the wonderful people at Walls Alive here in Williamsburg.
