Amy Hautman
Watercolors

November 8 – December 22, 2011

Amy Hautman comes from a family of nationally known artists. She earned her B.A. from University of Minnesota majoring in Studio Arts and Art History. For twelve years Hautman owned and operated a Minneapolis, Minnesota art gallery before moving to Raleigh, North Carolina to paint full time. After painting for thirty years Amy continues to find daily inspiration always aiming toward translating ideas and sensations into visual form.

Fine technical mastery of watercolor and oil mediums is evident in the precise brushstrokes of Hautman’s colorful paintings. With sensuous large scale flowers, enticing doorways and delectable grapes, Amy vividly portrays the emotional power of nature.

Amy’s paintings are included in hundreds of public and private collections as well as licensed on many home and garden products worldwide.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Of all the ways we express ourselves, painting is the language I know best. I paint because it feels so natural. When the world feels chaotic, I pick up the brush and a calm comes over me, assuring me that I am in the right place at the right time. All my energy comes into focus  and I am at peace.

Some people fish, some meditate, I paint.

As a naturalist, I am often inspired by some detail of nature. Describing the beauty of the object is less important than capturing it’s miraculous essence.  An ordinary subject, like the lowly chicken, when isolated, enlarged and dramatized in its color and movement makes a strong, powerful and lasting statement that takes us beyond our usual way of thinking. In the process, I pay homage to the universal connection of all things.
