Artist Statement
My primary interest
is to create drawings of figures
that express the mood and character
of the subject.I use simplified lines
and shapes to emphasize movement
and feeling. Most of my work are
gesture drawings of horses, people
and birds. Using a variety of media
to draw and working on boards and
canvas, I use Caran d’Ache
crayon, sumi ink, pencil, acrylic
and oil. Prior to living in America
I lived in the urban crowded city
of Belgrade. When I moved to America
in 1989 I was inspired by the endless
space of beautiful coutryside across
this country. The most picturesque
and peaceful times for me were seeing
horses in a pasture and that inspired
me to start drawing horses. I hope
to capture the feeling I receive
from seeing them in my work. Now
I am concerned about suberban sprawl
and the loss of the pastures and
farmer's land forever.
