Ganez Malebranche, porcelain platter Artist's Statement:
The form is the most important aspect of my artwork. If the shape is elegant and flows gracefully, I feel I have succeeded. The surface decoration can then be as elaborate or as simple as my mood desires, to offer a variety to the diverse tastes of discriminating buyers. Firing techniques include Raku, Pit Fired, and Functional Porcelain.

Background Information:
Although I have been an artist since I was old enough to hold a pencil, I only discovered the potter's wheel in 1995. Since then, clay has been my passion. I have participated in several shows in South Eastern and Central Virginia, including The Hand Workshop Craft and Design Show in Richmond, An Occasion For The Arts in Williamsburg, Stockley Gardens in Norfolk, The Seawall Art Festival in Portsmouth, the Neptune Festival and the Boardwalk Art Show in Virginia Beach, where one of my pieces was selected for judging in 2007.

Two of my saggar pieces were selected for the 2004 New Waves Exhibition at The Contemporary Art Center of Virginia. In June of '05 three of my pieces were chosen for exhibition in a regional artists show at the Rawls Museum in Courtland, VA, where one of them received an Honorable Mention. Two more pieces were chosen for the All Media Show in July at Artworks, Inc. in Richmond, VA, where they both received an Honorable Mention.

In January, 2006 I was invited to participate in the "Thou Shalt Not" exhibition at the Visual Art Center in Portsmouth, VA, which included 9 other artists. They were all much more renown and experienced than I, and I felt very honored to have been included. In the Gallery section of the September/October 2006 issue of Clay Times you will find one of my pieces from this exhibit.

Ganez Malebranche, Reaching High, Porcelain I took my first pottery class at the local Parks and Rec. facility, but have since taken classes and workshops with Marshal Turner, Joyce Michaud, Steve Branfman (who owns The Potters Shop), Ramon Camarillo, Russel Fouts, Beth Kendall, Dan Finch, Bill van Gilder and Cynthia Bringle to further my skills.

I teach pottery workshops for the Contemporary Art Center in Virginia Beach, VA. I am also currently the Treasurer of the Ceramic Designers Assoc. of Tidewater.

I live on the Virginia Beach side of Knotts Island with my wonderful husband and 2 beautiful children.
