I am a self taught collage artist. I also create 3-dimensional assemblages using dried plant material and found objects. After joining TCAG, I read Gerald Brommer's "Collage Techniques" in which he states "There is no right or wrong way to make a collage." Encouraged, I entered a collage in the Annual Members’ Show and won a Merit Award. I have continued to make creative, abstract, whimsical pieces, most of which are immediately claimed by family members. I am a National Master Flower Show Judge and feel that my design studies help with collage dynamics. While cutting, painting and pasting, I write poetry and think up quirky, fanciful titles for art pieces.

A Thread Through the Pages of Time
Gene Chis, A Thread Through the Pages of Time
Life is just a game we play
I was once a winner
Then my love just flew away
Like a top, now I'm a spinner
I sit and contemplate the cards
Dealt for only me
I'm tossing, like the flotsam
And the jetsam on the sea
Time is running out, I know
And life is what you make it
I'll laugh and sing and play again
Even if I fake it
See the birds fly
Way up there
Flying high and free
I wish my love could fly with them
And one of them be me
